Best Sarawak Kolo Mee in KL

Written by Updated ago

If you’ve been to Sarawak before, especially in the capital city of Kuching, kolo mee reigns supreme as one of the all-time favourite dishes among the Sarawakian Chinese. In fact, you can also say kolo mee is like a national dish to the them. So, what is kolo mee anyway? To begin with, the word “kolo” literally means “dry mixed” in Chinese. A bowl of kolo mee typically consists of springy thin noodles topped with minced pork, shallots, garlic, dark soy sauce, pepper and most of all, a few slices of juicy char siew (barbequed/BBQ pork) that completes the overall flavour. No doubt a simple, but appetising meal that can be enjoyed any time of the day!

By now, many kolo mee lovers should be familiarised with this green-and-white eatery since it has already been mushrooming at more than 20 outlets nationwide! Pan Mee may have been a favourite here, but the Sarawak Kolo Mee (particularly the traditional flavour) tops the list as a must-try dish. The noodles have a fine taste that isn’t too dry, but contains enough watery texture that goes well with the usual ingredients mixed altogether. Best of all, it was the savoury combination of thinly-sliced char siew and bouncy pork balls that give this kolo mee a mouthful pleasure.
