Best Rojak in Penang

Written by Updated ago

Not to be confused with rojak mamak, Penang rojak is typically referred to the mixed fruit salad. The biggest novelty here is the “har koh” or better known as prawn/shrimp paste. It has to be thick, dark and flavourful, since watery version is going to make your rojak turns into a sad-looking snack. Of course, no rojak would be complete without a few sprinkles of chopped or crushed peanuts to fulfil this yummylicious fruity snack.

If you love your rojak thick and gooey, then the famous Hock Seng Rojak King at Gat Lebuh Cecil should be your ideal pit stop. Finally, there’s crushed peanuts sprinkled all over to give the rojak an extra crunch to the bite.

Otherwise known as Bukit Mertajam (hence the word “B.M.”) Pek Lang Rojak, this is the third must-try rojak stall in the Penang state. For the uninitiated, “Pek Lang” literally means “white man” in Hokkien. Like the two famous Bukit Mertajam’s rojak stalls, they also sell their own rojak sauce. Their sauce is exceptionally thick, and tastes even better if you add in “you tiao” (fried Chinese breadstick)!
    Tips

Look out for the stall with yellow signboard at Kedai Kopi Bukit Mertajam.

    Things to expect

Don’t be shy if you prefer your rojak to be spicier than usual.
